Registration Status: Currently working towards NDIS provider registration for the following groups:

  • 0118 Early Intervention Supports for Early Childhood
  • 0128 Therapeutic Supports

All services are delivered in alignment with NDIS pricing and quality standards policy.

1. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to ensure that all supports provided by Wellfirst Kids promote, uphold, and respect participants' rights to dignity, autonomy, culture, and safety. This document outlines how staff will implement person-centred practices in accordance with:

  • The NDIS Practice Standards
  • The NDIS Code of Conduct
  • The Privacy Act 1988 (Cth)
  • Relevant Queensland legislation and human rights obligations

2. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • All Wellfirst Kids staff, contractors, and volunteers
  • All participants and families engaging with Wellfirst Kids services
  • All supports delivered under the NDIS registration groups for Wellfirst Kids

3. Responsibilities

Directors/Management

Ensure this policy is implemented, monitored, and reviewed annually. Provide training to staff and ensure compliance with NDIS standards.

Staff & Contractors

Follow procedures outlined in this policy, uphold participant rights, and document actions to demonstrate compliance.

Participants & Families

Are encouraged to provide input, raise concerns, and engage in decision-making processes regarding their supports.

4. Policy Statements

4.1 Person-Centred Supports

Wellfirst Kids is committed to delivering supports that uphold participants' human and legal rights, support informed decision-making, and enable meaningful participation in community and family life.

4.2 Individual Values and Beliefs

Supports will be responsive to each participant's cultural identity, values, and beliefs, as directed by the participant and/or their family.

4.3 Privacy and Dignity

Participants' privacy and dignity will be protected at all times. Personal information will only be collected, stored, and shared with informed consent and in compliance with relevant privacy laws.

4.4 Independence and Informed Choice

Participants will be supported to make informed decisions, including those involving dignity of risk. Sufficient time and appropriate communication supports will be provided to enable decision-making.

4.5 Violence, Abuse, Neglect, Exploitation, and Discrimination

Wellfirst Kids has zero tolerance for any form of abuse or discrimination. All staff are responsible for reporting incidents, and Wellfirst Kids will act promptly and appropriately to protect participants.

5. Procedures

5.1 Person-Centred Supports

  • Incorporate participants' human rights into daily practice
  • Use communication tailored to the participant's needs (e.g., plain English, visual aids, interpreters)
  • Facilitate participant engagement with their chosen community or support network
  • Document participant choices and communication supports used in participant files

5.2 Respecting Individual Values and Beliefs

  • On intake, staff must ask participants (and/or families) about cultural background, beliefs, and values
  • Respect and support cultural practices (e.g., dietary needs, religious observances)
  • Record this information in the Participant Support Plan

5.3 Privacy and Dignity

  • Explain confidentiality and privacy policies in terms the participant understands
  • Complete informed consent forms before collecting or sharing personal information
  • Store all records securely in compliance with privacy legislation

5.4 Supporting Independence and Informed Choice

  • Provide participants with clear, accessible information about service options, benefits, and risks
  • Support participants to seek advocacy services if requested
  • Document decision-making processes, ensuring participants had adequate time and support
  • Respect participants' rights to autonomy, intimacy, and sexual expression

5.5 Preventing and Responding to Violence, Abuse, Neglect, Exploitation, and Discrimination

  • Staff must complete training in identifying and preventing abuse
  • Report any allegation or suspicion immediately to management per Incident Management Policy
  • Facilitate access to independent advocacy for affected participants
  • Investigate allegations, record outcomes, and implement corrective actions
